LABOR DAY BREAKFAST/PARADE

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2014

Brothers & Sisters – please come out with your families and enjoy our “Burrito Bonanza” along with coffee, donuts, cookies, orange juice and water at the ILWU Memorial Hall, 231 W. “C” Street, Wilmington from 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.  After breakfast, please join us for our Labor Day march to Banning Park.  Let’s not let other labor organizations upstage the ILWU in our own backyard.  Let’s show our employers how united we are and have another 2,000 members/families march for labor.

LABOR DAY PAID HOLIDAY

Labor Day Monday, September 1, 2014 is a paid holiday.  Only registered members who have 800 qualifying hours in the prior payroll year (2013) and meet the availability requirements for at least two of the five days Monday through Friday (exclusive of the holiday) will receive a paid holiday for Labor Day.  This means you must work or meet the availability requirements for at least two of these days, Tuesday, September 2; Wednesday, September 3; Thursday; September 4 and Friday, September 5, 2014.

LABOR DAY IS ONE OF THE HOLIDAYS THAT EVERYONE HAS TO MEET THE TWO DAY AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS.

Persons taking vacation during the holiday week must report the vacation to the Records Clerk in the Dispatch hall on or before September 5, 2014 or you will not receive the holiday pay.  Persons not receiving holiday pay because of illness, injury, jury duty, etc. must file a claim with the Records Clerk on or before October 24, 2014.

The Labor Day holiday pay will be paid on September 19, 2014.

Some paid holiday notes:

  • Two shifts in one day only counts as one working day.  Example:  Work Tuesday, double-up Tuesday night; this is one day of the requirement.  You have worked two shifts in one day.

  • Vacation must be taken Monday through Friday

  • To be made available, this means you cannot pass a job in your skill category or a clerk job
