OFFICE OF LOCAL 13 CLOSED VETERAN’S DAY

The Office of Local 13 will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday.  The office will re-open for business on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

VETERANS DAY PAID HOLIDAY

Veterans Day Tuesday, November 11, 2014 is a paid holiday.  Only registered persons who have 800 qualifying hours in the prior payroll year 2013 and meet the availability requirement for at least two (2) of the five (5) days, Monday through Friday (exclusive of the day of the holiday) during the payroll week in which the holiday falls will receive a paid holiday for Veterans Day.  This means you must work or meet the availability requirements for at least two (2) days.  Monday, November 10th; Wednesday, November 12th; Thursday, November 13th; and Friday, November 14, 2014.

Under the current contract one does not have to meet the availability requirement if you have worked 1300 hours in the prior payroll year (2013) to receive the Veterans Day paid holiday.

Anyone intending to take a vacation during the holiday week must report the vacation to the Records Clerk in the Dispatch Hall on or before November 14, 2014 in order to be paid for the holiday.  Any person not receiving holiday pay because of illness, injury, jury duty, etc., must file a claim with the Records Clerk on or before January 2, 2015.  The Veterans Day holiday will be paid on the pay check of November 28, 2014.

Holiday Notes:

  • To be available means you cannot pass a job in your skill category or a clerk job.

  • Vacation must be taken Monday through Friday.

VACATION/INJURY REPLACEMENTS

The procedures below are a reminder for Vacation/Injury replacements based on Local 13 Dispatch Rules.  Please follow accordingly.

  1. Replacements required on a temporary basis for steadymen on vacation shall be ordered from the Dispatch Hall on the same basis as steadymen, but for no more than a period of six (6) weeks.  No posting of the job for ten days shall be required, as these jobs are temporary in nature.  Vacation relief replacements must be returned to the Hall no later than six weeks after original employment.  The fourteen day rule shall apply, and these jobs are volunteer.

  1. Replacement required on a temporary basis for steadymen off/on injury or illness disability shall be ordered from the Dispatch Hall from the appropriate board in the Hall and dispatched in normal fashion on a “volunteer” basis.  The order shall specify “Steady Man – Disability Replacement”. Such men shall take the payroll and guarantee status of the man being replaced and, if satisfactory to the employer, will remain on the job until the original steady man returns, or until a period of six months has been completed.

  1. If the disability continues beyond a six-month period, a new replacement for the original steadyman shall be ordered.

  1. In the event that the original steadyman being replaced leaves the work force by disability retirement, retirement, death, or by electing to return to the Dispatch Hall, the vacancy will be filled, if the employer so elects, by the normal steadyman hiring procedure.  In any event, the replacement temporarily filling this spot shall then be returned to the Dispatch Hall.

  1. If a Disability Replacement in turn becomes injured or ill and a continuing need for a man to fill the job exists, a new replacement shall be ordered in accordance with this procedure.  He shall be a replacement for the original steadyman, and not a replacement for the replacement.

  1. All other replacements will be filled through the normal dispatch procedure.

Fraternally,

Bobby Olvera, Jr. Mondo Porras Mark Williams

President Vice President Secretary/Treasurer
