MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Brothers & Sisters, I want to personally thank you for your patience and solidarity during this time and especially during the last month. The Regular Membership Meeting will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2023 @ 7:30 p.m. at the ILWU Memorial Hall, 231 W. “C” Street, Wilmington. During the meeting, we will also present our 2023 Scholarships.  There will be no discussion of any contract details at this meeting.

Here is the process for contract ratification:

  1. The parties reached a tentative agreement on June 14, 2023, on the terms and conditions of the contract.  The Negotiating Committee unanimously recommended approval the of contract.

  1. The Negotiating Committee is still convened until the Caucus takes place on July 17-21, 2023, in Long Beach and is still working on some of the details of the contract, going through the editing process.

  1. At the contract caucus, the Caucus will either recommend or reject the contract for approval.  If rejected, then the Negotiating Committee will reconvene, with the caveat all terms and conditions are back on the table, and negotiations start again.

  1. If the Caucus approves the contract, then all Class A and B members will receive a special copy of The Dispatcher with the terms and conditions of the contract.

  1. At the August 3, 2023, Stop Work Meeting, the Caucus Delegates will present the contract and safety document to the membership.

  1. After all the locals present the contract to their membership, the voting ballots will be mailed out for ratification.  The tallying of the votes should be completed by mid to late September.

  1. The Grievance Procedure has been reinstated for 13.2’s and will be processed in the order that they were filed, as well as on-the-job arbitrations.

  1. It is the members’ responsibility to update their mailing address with the Dues Office to receive a copy of The Dispatcher and ballot.
