SPECIAL ONE DAY ELECTION

REFERENDUM BALLOT

CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES

A Special One Day Election will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the ILWU Memorial Hall, 231 W. “C” Street, Wilmington, for the following Constitutional changes listed below.  

 

The following Constitutional changes were approved by the membership on December 7, 2023, with a second approval on January 11, 2024.  

 

CONSTITUTION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS

Are you in favor of reducing the number of Labor Relations Representatives from four (4) to three (3).  If you are in favor of this constitutional change, please vote “YES.”  If you are not in favor, please vote “NO.”

If yes, the following amendments shall apply:

 

ARTICLE III

DUTIES OF OFFICERS

Old Language

Section  4. LABOR RELATIONS COMMITTEE REPRESENTATIVES:

 

  1. There shall be four (4) Labor Relations Committee Representatives.

  2. They shall represent the Local at all Labor Relations Committee meetings.

  3. The Labor Relations Committee Representatives shall work under the direction of the President.

  4. The Labor Relations Committee Representatives shall perform other duties as the Local may assign.

  5. The Labor Relations Committee Representatives shall at the expiration of their term, recall, removal or resignation turn over to the Local, all property in their possession belonging to the Local. 

New Language

Are you in favor of reducing the number of Labor Relations Representatives from two (2) to one (1)?  If you are in favor of this Constitutional change, please vote “YES.”  If you are not in favor, please vote “NO.”

 

If yes, the following amendments shall apply:

  1. Nominations for President, Vice-President, Labor Relations Committee Representative (2), Business Agent(s), necessary Dispatchers, Executive Board, Trustee (2), Standing Committees and all other elective positions as the Local designates, shall be open from the day of the last regular meeting of the Local in February to thirty-six (36) hours after the first regular meeting in March of each year.  (As Amended on August 10, 2004) & (As Amended on May 5, 2005) 

New Language

Section  1.

  1. Nominations for President, Vice-President, Labor Relations Committee Representative (1), Business Agent(s), necessary Dispatchers, Executive Board, Trustee (2), Standing Committees and all other elective positions as the Local designates, shall be open from the day of the last regular meeting of the Local in February to thirty-six (36) hours after the first regular meeting in March of each year.  (As Amended on August 10, 2004) & (As Amended on May 5, 2005) 

Are you in favor of the Constitutional change ARTICLE IV – NOMINATION OF OFFICERS? Please vote “YES” or “NO”

Shall the Local adopt the Constitutional change calling for the Labor Relations Representative-Port Liaison to attend all Political Action Committee meetings? If you are in favor of this Constitutional change, please vote “YES.”  If you are not in favor, please vote “NO.”

If yes, the following amendments shall apply:

Section 15.

 

POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE:

 

a. The President shall serve as Chairman of the Political Action Committee.

 

b. The Secretary-Treasurer shall be a member of the Political Action Committee and serve as Committee Treasurer.

 

c. The Political Action Committee will include six (6) elected rank and file members.

 

d. Duties of the Political Action Committee members will on behalf of the Local review and endorse political candidates, measures, propositions and political action. Report to the Executive Board and to the membership as needed for final approval.

 

(As Amended March 21, 22, 23, 2000)

Section 15.

 

POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE:

 

a. The President shall serve as Chairman of the Political Action Committee.

 

b. The Secretary-Treasurer shall be a member of the Political Action Committee and serve as Committee Treasurer.

 

c. The Labor Relations Representative-Port Liaison shall attend all Political Action Committee meetings.

 

d. The Political Action Committee will include six (6) elected rank and file members.

 

e. Duties of the Political Action Committee members will on behalf of the Local review and endorse political candidates, measures, propositions, and political action. Report to the Executive Board and to the membership as needed for final approval.
