May 15th, 2015 marks the anniversary of the deaths of Richard “Dickie” Parker and John Miles Knudsen.  These two union brothers were the first to give their lives in the Strike of 1934, which eventually led to the formation of our great union, the ILWU.

To commemorate the event, Locals 13, 63, 94 and the Southern California Pensioners Group will hold a march and memorial service in their honor.  The march will begin at 10:30 a.m. on 22nd Street and Harbor Blvd., in San Pedro.  The march will conclude near 6th Street and Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro. at the ILWU Memorial Harry Bridges Bust.

First Blood Ceremony – This annual event which honors all of the ILWU members who have lost their lives on the waterfront will take place on Friday, May 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in front of the Harry Bridges bust located at the base of Harbor Blvd.and 6th Street in San Pedro.  This year’s honoree in memoriam will be ILWU, Local 94 Brother Steve Saggiani.  Please come and pay tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters.

FOOD BINS – FOR “GIVING CHILDREN HOPE”

Food Bins on behalf of “Giving Children Hope” have been placed in the Dispatch Hall and at the Local 13 Offices.  Please donate a small bag of “beans” or “rice” ONLY – that would fit into a small kids back pack.  Food bins will be available until the end of May.  Your support is greatly appreciated and will help hungry children.

AUTO JOBS

It has been brought to the attention of the Officers that keys have been missing on the auto jobs.  PLEASE make sure you do not have keys in your possession before leaving the terminal.

There have also been reports of damage to vehicles.  This is a very serious matter for Toyota, NYK Line, SSA Marine and for the ILWU.  Any act of vandalism will not be tolerated. Anyone caught vandalizing any car will be punished to the full extent of the contract.  Help protect our work by treating each vehicle as if it were your own.  If you see any vandalism, report it to your Foreman immediately.

Fraternally,
