NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR
2021 SPRING ELECTION
Nominations for the 2021 Spring Election opened on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 for the following offices and committees: President (1), Vice-President (1), LRC Representative (1), Day Business Agent (1), Night Business Agent (1), Trustee (2), Day Dispatchers (5), Day Flex Dispatcher (1), Chairman of Stewards (1), Casual Hall Dispatcher (1), Casual Hall Sgt.-At-Arms (1), Publicity Committee (3), Grievance Committee (10), Membership Committee (16), Political Action Committee (6) and Executive Board (25).
The deadline for the submission of nominees is Monday, February 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Nomination papers must be turned in at ILWU Local 13, 630 S. Centre Street, San Pedro, CA 90731.
Saturday, February 27, 2021, Spring Election ballots will be mailed last known address on file. It is the member’s responsibility to update their address with ILWU Local 13.
Monday, March 15, 2021, Ballots must be received by 10:00 a.m. 2021 Spring Election ballot count.
ELIGIBILITY TO RUN FOR OFFICE
In accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws, Article IV, Section 1, Sub-Section (f) and Article XI, Section 1, Sub-Section (b). For a member to be considered in good standing, they shall have their dues, fines, and assessments paid in full every month for twelve consecutive months prior to picking up a nomination form. No nomination form shall be issued to the member if these criteria has not been met.
Article IV, Section 1, (f)
“In order to have his name placed on the ballot and to hold any office or position, each candidate must have been in good standing and an active Longshoreman in the industry in this Local or working in the ILWU for the previous twelve (12) months.”
Article XI, Section 1, (b)
“Dues are due and payable on the first day of each month. A member is in good standing only when his dues, assessments or other indebtedness are paid on or before the delinquent dates, as determined by the Local.”
OFFICE OF LOCAL 13 WILL BE CLOSED FOR PRESIDENT’S DAY
The Office of Local 13 will be closed on Monday, February 15, 2021 in observance of President’s Day.
PRESIDENT’S DAY PAID HOLIDAY
President’s Day, Monday, February 15, 2021 is a paid holiday. Only registered persons who have 800 qualifying hours in the prior payroll year (2020) and meet the availability requirements for at least two of the five days Monday through Friday (exclusive of the day of the holiday) during the payroll week in which the holiday falls will receive a paid holiday for President’s Day. This means you must work or meet the availability requirements for at least two days, Tuesday, February 16th; Wednesday, February 17th; Thursday, February 18th; and Friday February 19, 2021.
Under the current contract, if you worked 1300 hours or more in the payroll year 2020, you do not need to meet the availability requirement to receive President’s Day Holiday pay.
Anyone intending to take a vacation during the holiday week must report the vacation to the Records Clerk in the Dispatch Hall on or before Friday, February 19, 2021. Any person not receiving holiday pay because of injury, illness, jury duty, etc. must file a claim with the Records Clerk on or before Friday, April 2, 2021. President’s Day Holiday pay will be paid on February 26, 2021.
LINCOLN’S BIRTHDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2021 IS A HOLIDAY BUT IS NOT A PAID HOLIDAY. ALL WORK PERFORMED ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2021 WILL BE PAID AT THE OVERTIME RATE.
