UPDATE ON THE FOREMAN HIRING PROCESS
There have been many rumors circulating regarding the reason(s) the Foreman hiring process has been on hold. Local 13 has an obligation and duty to represent the rights of the entire rank and file and to insure that any process the membership is subjected to for training or transfer is done in a manner that is fair and unbiased. On January 13, 2016 Local 13, 63 met with Local 94 and PMA to present specific issues related to the foreman hiring process. On January 15, 2016, Local 94 responded to both Local 13 and 63 with an update which we have included below. PMA has provided no update of the current status of the process.
“We will consult with PMA and respond as quickly as we feasibly can. As you know, a lot of issues were raised and it will take some time to sort them out and try to reach agreement with PMA about the appropriate response. The foremen hiring process is necessarily a joint process with PMA and as you know, reaching agreement can require significant back and forth before agreement (or impasse) is reached. Be assured we are putting the highest priority on addressing these matters and giving them the full consideration that they warrant under our respective contracts and the law.”
Daniel Miranda,
President, ILWU Local 94
The Officers of Local 13 recognize the frustration and confusion the delay in the process has caused some members and is hopeful Local 94 and PMA will resolve any and all issues quickly and resumes the foreman hiring process. Local 13 will continue to request updates from Local 94 and PMA and those updates will be bulletinzed to the membership.
Fraternally,
Bobby Olvera, Jr. Mondo Porras Victor Hudak
