ILWU LOCAL 13
MEMBERSHIP MOBILIZATION
The 2014 ILWU Contract is upon us. As a result, the Officers of Local 13 are in the process of establishing a program to provide a reliable and accurate method of communication. We are preparing to organize the Local’s Mobilization and Response Teams in an organized manner. The procedures that follow are the initial steps towards this objective.
Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available at the Dispatch Hall beginning Monday, April 21, 2014 and Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Keep in mind that Membership Mobilization will begin on a first come basis. Members will have the opportunity to choose their desired gate location and shift time. In order to expedite this process, Local 13 Officers, Trustees, and Executive Board Members will be available at the Dispatch Hall on the above stated dates for any questions or concerns. Information collected will be protected and securely placed into each members personnel file. The time to act is now; step up and protect your Union!
Starting next Thursday – let’s make every Thursday “White Hat Thursday” until our contract is ratified.
MAY 15TH – FIRST BLOOD
You are all invited to the First Blood ceremony on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the base of 6th Street/Harbor Blvd., San Pedro in front of the Harry Bridges statue. This ceremony honors all those who have died on the waterfront since the first blood was drawn on May 15, 1934 with the killing of Dickie Parker and John Knudsen. Two brave men who stood up for the ILWU and believed their jobs were worth fighting and dying for. As we honor all those who have lost their lives in accidents on the job, we ask that you take a moment out of your busy schedules and help us honor those who have died much before they deserved. Parking will be across from Acapulco Restaurant with a shuttle to take you to and from the site. Any family members of those who have died are asked to attend and bring any photos so we may recognize you during the reading of the deceased list. In sincere gratitude and thanks, The Southern California Pensioners.
FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Applications for the ILWU Local 13 Family Scholarship will be available Tuesday, April 15, 2013 in Local 13 Dues Office and Records Room at the Dispatch hall. Any Local 13 member whose son/daughter will graduate from high school in the 2014 school year may apply. If you have any questions, place contact Renee Olloque at (310) 830-1130 x128.
