FALL DAY BUSINESS AGENT POSITION 

(6-MONTH TERM)

PLACED ON SPRING ELECTION BALLOT

 

Nominations for the Fall Day Business Agent position (6 months left on term) will open at the Regular Membership meeting on Thursday, March 5, 2020 @ 7:30 p.m.  This position will end in September 2020. Nomination forms will be available on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the ILWU Local 13 Dues Office.  The nomination forms for this position must be turned in no later than Saturday, March 7, 2020 by 10:00 a.m.  At this time, the draw for placement on the ballot will be drawn with the regular Spring Election positions and will be placed on a Spring Election ballot. 

 

 NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 

2020 SPRING ELECTION

 

Nominations for the 2020 Spring Election opened at the Stop Work Meeting on Thursday, February 6, 2020 for the following offices and committees:  President (1), Vice-President (1), LRC Representative (1), Day Business Agent (1),  Night Business Agent (1), Trustee (2),  Day Dispatchers (5), Day Flex Dispatcher (1),  Chairman of Stewards (1), Casual Hall Dispatcher (1), Casual Hall Sgt.-At-Arms (1), Publicity Committee (3), Grievance Committee (10), Membership Committee (16), Political Action Committee (6) and Executive Board (25).  

 

The deadline for the submission of nominees is Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.  Nomination papers must be turned in at ILWU Local 13, 630 S. Centre Street, San Pedro, CA 90731.

 

Elections will be held on Tuesday, March 10th; Wednesday, March 11th; and Thursday, March 12, 2020. Run-off elections will be held on Tuesday, March 24th; Wednesday, March 25th; and Thursday, March 26, 2020.  Voting will take place at the ILWU Memorial Hall, 231 W. “C” Street, Wilmington, 90744.  The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on each day.

 

ELIGIBILITY TO RUN FOR OFFICE

 

In accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws, Article IV, Section 1, Sub-Section (f) and Article XI, Section 1, Sub-Section (b).  For a member to be considered in good standing, they shall have their dues, fines, and assessments paid in full every month for twelve consecutive months prior to picking up a nomination form.  No nomination form shall be issued to the member if these criteria has not been met.

 

Article IV, Section 1, (f)

“In order to have his name placed on the ballot and to hold any office or position, each candidate must have been in good standing and an active Longshoreman in the industry in this Local or working in the ILWU for the previous twelve (12) months.”

 

Article XI, Section 1, (b)

“Dues are due and payable on the first day of each month.  A member is in good standing only when his dues, assessments or other indebtedness are paid on or before the delinquent dates, as determined by the Local.”
