18th ANNUAL “FEED THE COMMUNITY DAY” VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BOTH DAYS

 

Thanksgiving is coming upon us and Local 13 has supported feeding the community for the last sixteen years.  If you are interested in volunteering to help prep the baskets, please show up at the ILWU Memorial Hall, 231 W. “C” Street, Wilmington on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

 

The “18th Annual Feed the Community Day” will take place on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the ILWU Memorial Hall for the distribution of baskets from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The Office of Local 13 will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, 2015 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  


 

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

 

The Executive Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2015 has been cancelled due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

 

THANKSGIVING DAY PAID HOLIDAY

 

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 26, 2015 will be a paid holiday.  Only registered persons who have 800 qualifying hours in the prior payroll year 2014 and meet the availability requirements for at least two (2) of the five (5) days Monday through Friday (exclusive of the holiday) during the week in which the holiday falls, will receive a paid holiday for Thanksgiving Day.  This means you must work or meet the availability requirement for at least two (2) days, Monday, November 23; Tuesday, November 24, Wednesday, November 25 and Friday, November 27, 2015.

 

Thanksgiving Day is one of the holidays that everyone has to meet the two (2) day availability requirements.  Any person intending to take a vacation during the Thanksgiving week must report the vacation to the Records Clerk in the Records Room in the Dispatch Hall on or before Friday, November 27, 2015.  Any person not receiving Thanksgiving Day holiday pay because of illness, injury, jury duty, etc. must file a claim on or before Friday, January 15, 2016.

 

Some paid holiday notes:

  • The Thanksgiving Day holiday pay will be paid on Friday, December 12, 2015.

  • Vacation must be taken Monday through Friday.

  • Two shifts in one day only counts as one day working.  Example:  Work Monday day, double-back Monday night; this is only one day of the requirement.  You have worked two shifts in one day.  

  • To be considered available means you cannot pass a job in your skill category or a clerk job.

 

SO. CA. AREA – ALCOHOLISM/DRUG RECOVERY PROGRAM REPRESENTATIVE

 

Jackie Cummings is retiring as Southern California ADRP Representative effective April 9, 2016. The Trustees wish to fill the position as soon as possible to facilitate a smooth transition.  Interested applicants should submit a resume to the Plan office at ILWU/PMA Benefits Plan, 1188 Franklin Street, Suite 101, San Francisco, CA 94109 by Wednesday, November 18, 2015 including a detailed description of work experience, education and training, and a cover letter describing their interest in the position of SDRP Representative.  Applicants may also submit letters of reference.  The ADRP Representative is the liaison between the SDRP and Welfare Plan eligible, ILWU Locals, Employers, Health Benefits Plans, ADRP approved treatment facilities, public and private agencies, and individual professionals.  Accountable to ADRP Coast Director.  Duties of responsibilities:  Facilitate interventions; Arrange for Program treatment; Monitor progress of Welfare Plan eligible in treatment; Survey Area Treatment facilities; Develop and train Program coordinators (volunteers); Develop educational programs for the longshore workers.  Qualifications:  The ADRP Representative must be knowledgeable about treatment of individuals with alcohol and substance abuse problems, including intervention techniques and all aspects of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) treatment approaches.  The Representative must develop and/or have personal contact with AA groups, Alanon groups, EAPA groups, NA groups, etc. in the area, and in addition must have or be able to develop contacts with professionals in the field of alcohol and substance abuse treatment.
